Advice On Making Brownies From A Cake Mix
posted on 04/01/2009
If you like the texture and chewiness of brownies, but don't always like the chocolate flavor, here is a good recipe that allows you to make these tasty treats out of flavored cake mixes. Or, you can use a white cake mix and add your own individual flavors. Either way, you get the texture of brownies but with different flavors.
Start with a box of cake mix
You can use any flavor, but for this recipe, let's use lemon. You can use orange, pineapple, white, yellow, spice or chocolate with the same results. Let your imagination soar when choosing flavors.
Ingredients
You will need the following (once again, we're aiming for lemon brownies):
1 box of lemon cake mix or the flavor of your choice
1 3-ounce package of lemon Jello (or the Jello flavor of your choice)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
That's all you need. Choose your jello flavor to match or contrast with your cake mix. You can use cherry jello with chocolate cake mix, lime jello with white cake mix or peach jello with yellow cake mix. Whatever your heart desires.
Preheat oven and prepare the pan
Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease and flour a 13x9-inch pan.
Combine the ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine cake mix, Jello, oil and eggs with electric mixer (batter will be thick). Spread into prepared pan.
Bake and cool
Bake 25-30 minutes, until golden brown and slightly firm to touch. Cool cake completely, and then cut into squares.
Eat and enjoy
That was easy enough, wasn't it?
This is a great recipe to have on hand when you need a last minute dessert or are trying to find something different to serve. Everyone loves brownies, but not everyone loves chocolate. These little morsels will become a favorite in your recipe box!
