Advice On Saving Money While Shopping
posted on 05/18/2009
Regardless of if you have buckets of money, or very empty pockets, we all need to shop. As a hobby, or in order to survive.
Lately while shopping, I've noticed a few things.
Prices are up.
And due to the recession, it's getting harder to afford the things we want and need.
I've started doing a few things while shopping to help save my money and be better prepared for the future.
The key is to find cheap, clearance food, and stock up on it. The more, the better. If it's on sale, chances are you'll eat anything if you don't have much money.
Last week I found butter on sale for 90% off, and I now have enough in the freezer to last me until I'm 40. And while I was at it, I'm saving tons of money.
You have to figure out what you can spend more money on, and what you can skimp off of. Butter, cheese, and frozen foods are all things that can be frozen and that you don't need to spend lots of money on. However, milk, cereal, eggs, bakery items and fruits are all things that you will need to get fresh every week, and possibly pay the larger price for.
Onto clothes shopping. If you've got a sewing machine, know how to work it, and some basic clothing patterns, good for you! If you're like most people, you'll probably need to buy clothes.
Online shopping is a good way to go when it comes to clothing. You can find sales, create your own designs with sites like printfection (which is currently running a $2 custom white t-shirt sale!) and other sites like Target and Wal-mart have cheap clothing online.
The biggest clothing deals are at thrift shops, and small boutiques selling old winter and summer clothing. Get all your winter clothes (in a size larger than you are currently) in late March or early April, when stores are putting winter stock in clearance. It's best to get summer clothes in September, again, when it's being put on clearance.
Try to stay away from large brands like American Eagle and Hollister, which both sell expensive t-shirts and jeans that advertise their companies on the products. If anything, the companies should be paying US for advertising for THEM.
I hope this helped, I know I've saved a lot using these tips since the recent recession!
