Advice On Mountain Dew Addiction
posted on 06/25/2009
So you want to break your Mountain Dew addiction? Great! I can help you with that here.
I myself was addicted to Mountain Dew. Some people may think that it is not possible to become addicted to this sugary drink, but I tell you that this is not true. It is certainly not as bad as being addicted to cigarettes, but it is not fun either. I knew I was addicted when I had to have a Mt. Dew to drive into town, to do homework, basically to do anything. Even when I wanted to quit I would still end up having four per day.
I managed to cut my Mt. Dew consumption down to one can per week. I allow myself one can a week because then it seems much more manageable. You have to think in small steps. When you start thinking that you can never have another soda as long as you live, this goal seems unattainable. You get frustrated, and then probably quit trying. This is the way it worked for me anyway.
The way I quit was to rid my house of all Mt. Dew products. If you have some left in your fridge, I can guarantee you that you will not stop. It is simply too easy to go down and grab a can. I recommend switching to diet soda. It has 0 calories, which can really help your waistline. While it still isn't amazing for you, it is step in the right direction.
Overall, no longer drinking Mt. Dew was not an easy goal to accomplish. It took me a few months to really break myself of this habit. These are simply some of the techniques that work for me. I suggest that you try them, and also feel free to try anything else that you feel may work. Good luck to you!

Very good rbudding.... Yes, I think we humans can get addicted to almost anything.... Other suggestions for breaking an addiction include - when the craving comes find some way to occupy yourself for 15 minutes, and then the craving will decrease.... You will probably have to fight the craving several times a day.... If you don't have a weight concern, then you can eat or drink something else when you get the craving, to help it decrease.... But, this only applies for people who don't gain weight easily.... Also, if you get a craving, you can physically remove yourself from the opportunity to give-in.... For example, if you're in the store and get a sudden and strong craving for something, then just immediately drop what you are doing and leave the store until the craving decreases.... There are many other techniques also.

Great Article!
I myself am addicted to Mt Dew, and I have tried quitting cold turkey, and that obviously doesn't work (as I sit here with my bottle on my work desk)
I will definitely try to cut back to one per week and see if it helps!
