Advice On Watching Baby Grow

There is nothing more fascinating than the first few months of a baby's life. In just a few short weeks, your newborn grows usually an inch or more and gains at least a pound (if all is going well).
At four weeks, you will probably notice that your baby is making sounds other than crying. One day you may suddenly notice little cooing sounds or what could almost be humming noises coming from your baby. This is the beginning of a newborn exploring sounds. Cooing and humming are usually a sign that your baby is content and all is well. If your baby starts cooing and smiling, don't ignore the opportunity to coo and smile right back. Now is the time to place a mobile in your baby's crib or place baby in a reclining seat that vibrates and has interesting attachments to keep baby occupied and help with coordination.
You might also notice different tones in the way your baby expresses displeasure. He might whine in a scolding manner if wearing a soiled diaper, or cry in a steady, yet demanding way if it's feeding time. Pain associated with gas or discomfort is accompanied often times with a cry that almost resembles a piercing shrill,
Napping and bedtime are important for all newborns and using a pacifier is okay according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Not only do pacifiers have a calming effect and fill the need for baby's sucking, they are also said to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome.
