Advice On Going Energy Green
posted on 09/28/2009
Believe it or not, the electricity you use has the biggest impact of the environment. The best way to stay in the green in your household is to use solar power or wind, but we all know that this can be an expensive endeavor and can meet certain zone, landlord and neighborhood restrictions. But did you know that many electric companies are now offering 'green' power. It's true and worth investigating.
Green power is available to customers in states that have deregulated their power suppliers. Many companies now offer energy created from solar, wind, hydro or biomass-powered generating plants. Many companies are researching better ways to bring clean energy to their customers by supporting the development of clean energy infrastructures. And, in most cases, selecting one of these 'green' electrical companies doesn't mean much will change in the way your electric meter is read; although, you may receive two separate bills depending on the company.
If you live in a state that does not offer green energy alternatives, renewable energy certificates can be purchased to help reduce the carbon emissions created by powering a home using non-renewable resources. REC are often times offered by organizations other than electrical companies.
There are many ways that you, as an energy consumer, can make some changes. To help understand what is available in your local community go to the Energy Department's Green Power website to see what is offered in your area.
