Advice On Windows 7
posted on 10/19/2009
Before you get excited about Windows 7 you first will want to check to see if your PC is capable of the upgrade. If not you will need to purchase a new PC. Windows 7 looks like something that I would want to have. It incorporates some of the add-on programs I already use like WindowsBlinds and many of the add-ons I use with Firefox. Here is the link that will help you determine whether your current computer can use Windows 7. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15). Before running the Microsoft application that lets you know if your computer is compatible remember to turn all all of your USB connected devices like scanners, external CD/DVD drives, etc.
Even if I decide to upgrade to Windows 7 from XP Home Edition, I will still use Firefox and not Microsoft Explorer (Just wanted to make that clear). The new operating system from Microsoft has features that were created because of consumer requests. This edition makes it easier for the of sharing printers and files via home networks.
Windows 7 gives you quick access (shortcuts) to your photos, music and websites. One feature that I found interesting is the ability to make your windows invisible yet still open so you can view your wallpaper on your desktop. See photo below. Concern for your desktop aesthetics is no longer an afterthought. A lot of new desktop wallpapers are included or you can access the new desktop slide show. It displays a rotating series of your pictures.
Windows Touch allows you to touch your monitor's screen instead of using a keyboard and mouse. You do need a touch monitor to be able to use this feature. Windows search has been given a super boost enabling super fast searches for anything on your hard drive.
Is Windows 7 a good investment? Did they work out all the Vista kinks? That remains top be seen. Let others buy it first and then gain from their success or mistakes. Microsoft has several different platforms. Suggested retail pricing for W7 is: Windows 7 Starter is $199, Windows 7 Home Premium is $259, Windows 7 Professional version is $299 and Windows 7 Ultimate will retail for $319.
